Lethbridge has been involved with Sport Tourism Canada since its formation, but the Lethbridge Sport Council’s first official representation was at the 10th anniversary Sport Events Congress (SEC) in Toronto in 2010.

My favourite memory from SEC is how conversations and learning happened all day long—from the moment you step onto the hotel elevator in the morning until you get off the elevator in the evening.

Beyond the excellent sessions and the always-popular speed dating, my most memorable moment in 2010 was entering Rogers Stadium through the chartered bus entrance, walking onto the field to the beat of a Caribbean band, meeting the Blue Jays mascot, and playing lacrosse right there on the turf. I barely made it upstairs for food and drink.

A close second was in 2011: meeting the gracious and truly welcoming Walter Gretzky. That experience has stayed with me as one of those moments that capture the spirit of SEC—connections, community, and hospitality.

Congratulations to Sport Tourism Canada on 25 years of bringing Canada’s sport hosting community together.
