As you’re preparing to travel to Edmonton for #SEC20, we wanted to reassure you that CSTA takes the care and well-being of all of our delegates very seriously.  We are in constant contact with federal, provincial and local authorities related to the current virus outbreak.
Although there have been a number of sport event and conference cancellations, they are occurring strictly with those at the international level (e.g. IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championships, Arctic Winter Games) that involve international visitors. To date, there have been no cancellations of any domestic competitions or conferences and we are monitoring developments closely. The risk factor domestically here in Canada remains low.
However, we are putting precautions in place with our host partners and local authorities. We will be instituting Operations Hands Off to keep everyone healthy at #SEC20.
Everyone will be encouraged to:
  1. Wash hands with soap and water frequently (for at least 20 seconds).
  2. Avoid handshakes and hugs in favour of elbow bumps.
  3. Use the hand sanitizer that will be provided.
  4. If you feel sick, stay in your hotel room and text us to let us know.
Our host convention and hotel partners also have put their own protocols into place as follows:

Edmonton Convention Centre (ECC)

The ECC strictly abides by all public health and safety protocols outlined by Alberta Health Services and are actively monitoring Alberta Health Services, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the World Health Organization for national or provincial alerts as they relate to COVID-19.
These protocols are always in place at our venue to prevent the spread of infectious or respiratory illness:
  • Our service staff are trained in proper food handling procedures which include regular hand washing and sanitization practices based on Alberta Health Services guidelines.
  • Public and washroom areas are consistently monitored for cleanliness and are supplied with the appropriate hygiene products.
  • Additional hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout our venues.
  • Administrative controls are in place to ensure proper hand washing techniques are followed by all staff.
  • We have increased our communications to staff, reminding them of personal preventative measures such as handwashing and advising them to stay home if they are feeling ill.
  • In the event of a national or provincial public alert, we would activate our venue Emergency Response Teams in collaboration with Alberta Health Services and our clients to determine next steps.
