Sport Tourism Canada is pleased to announce that the new STEAM (Sport Tourism Economic Assessment Model) tool is launching soon, with a scheduled rollout beginning in early May. This project represents a landmark investment and a complete, ground-up rebuild of both the online and STEAMPRO versions of the model.

Developed in partnership with Canadian organizations Signal49 Research (formerly operating as The Conference Board of Canada) and Integra Design Studio, the new STEAM is a revolutionary, data-driven system designed to set a new national benchmark in economic impact analysis. By replacing legacy software with cutting-edge technology and a modern codebase, we are ensuring that STEAM continues to serve as the gold standard for sport tourism economic analysis in Canada.

As we transition to this modernized platform, the legacy STEAM tool will be officially decommissioned. Access to the old version of the tool will be disabled as of Monday, May 25. Members who wish to retain data or reports from previous projects are strongly encouraged to log in and save their work as soon as possible, as historical data from the old system will not be automatically migrated to the new platform. We have created this “How to Save” document to assist members in this process.

To ensure a seamless transition for all members, the tool will be introduced through a staged rollout across the country.

  • Stage 1 (May 11): Atlantic Canada and Quebec
  • Stage 2 (May 19): Ontario and Manitoba
  • Stage 3 (May 25): Saskatchewan and Alberta
  • Stage 4 (June 1): British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut

Current STEAM users can expect to receive a personalized email on their region’s launch date with specific instructions for setting up their new STEAM access. While the new tool provides a faster, more intuitive platform for self-service predictive analysis, Sport Tourism Canada also encourages organizations to utilize the STEAMPRO service for comprehensive actual results with, expert-led assessments.
