International event attracts thousands of visitors to the Blue Mountains and generates significant economic and tourism benefits for Ontario.

According to a new economic impact assessment prepared by Sport Tourism Canada using the STEAMPRO model, the 2026 Ski Cross World Cup generated more than $5.0 million in overall economic activity for Ontario and $5.7 million across Canada.

Held March 21-22, 2026, at Craigleith Ski Club in the Blue Mountains, the FIS Ski Cross World Cup welcomed more than 5,000 spectators over two days of competition. Not only was it an exceptional event from an event delivery perspective, but Canada was able to claim four podium results over the two days (25% of all podiums available) of competition.

As the only North American stop on the FIS Ski Cross World Cup circuit, the event demonstrated how international sport events can drive tourism to Canadian destinations. By attracting visitors from outside the region and encouraging extended stays, the championship generated economic activity while introducing new audiences to everything the Blue Mountains has to offer.

“The Ski Cross World Cup delivered on the objectives we share with Craigleith for hosting a World Cup event in Canada and is a key pillar of our strategic plan to produce race events that excite Canadians,” said Therese Brisson, President & CEO at Alpine Canada. “We look forward to building on the momentum at the event next season on March 19-21, 2027.”

The event generated significant tourism activity throughout the Blue Mountains. More than 70% of out-of-town visitors said the Ski Cross World Cup was the primary reason for their trip. In addition, 38% extended their visit beyond the event dates, driving further spending across accommodations, dining, retail, and recreational experiences.

“The 2026 Ski Cross World Cup demonstrates the value of hosting international sport events in communities across Canada,” said Derek Mager, Sport Tourism Canada’s Senior Consultant and Program Manager of Economic Impact, who analyzed the data and prepared the report. “Events like this drive visitation, support local businesses and jobs, and create lasting tourism benefits that extend well beyond competition weekend.”
