There’s a new player in the indoor sports game in #SaintAwesome – the Irving Oil Field House. The Irving Oil Field House is a 127,000 square- foot high-quality sports facility putting Saint John on the map in Atlantic Canada to host events, develop top players and draw athletes from all over the region and beyond.

In fact, with the paint barely dry, the facility is already booked to host an impressive roster of provincial and national track and field events including the Atlantic University Championships 2020, Atlantic Age Class Championships 2020, Canadian Masters Championships 2020, USports (National) University Championships 2021, and Canadian Age Group Indoor Championships 2021-2022.  Future bookings also include regional soccer and ultimate Frisbee tournaments as well as badminton.

Here’s just a snapshot of what the Irving Oil Field House has to offer:

  • 8-lane 60m sprint straight

Since the field house opened in late fall of 2019, it has become a critical piece of the local sport and fitness scene, with nearly 70 different local groups hosting activities there including pickle ball and local theatre. This is in addition to the large regional and national events already on the calendar. The Saint John YMCA is charge of operating the facility.

So what’s your event?  Want to host a regional or national track and field event?  This is the place for you. Or maybe your sport is soccer, or ultimate Frisbee, badminton, football, rugby or anything you can play on grass. And with the removable turf, there are opportunities for court sports, cultural events or something we have yet to consider.

In Saint John, we’re ok if you’re all about the sports, but while you’re here, you may as well enjoy everything our beautiful, historic city has to offer.

After all, we are the oldest incorporated city in Canada, and a perfect place to witness the highest tides on the planet. With its charming historic street, dozens of restaurants, bars and galleries in its uptown and the beautiful Bay of Fundy on its doorstep, Saint John is a vibrant city on the edge of nature.

Our top attractions include the beautiful Saint John City Market – the oldest continuous farmers market in Canada. In operation since 1786, the market is open year-round.  It’s a hub of activity filled with fresh produce, seafood and meat, prepared foods and artists and craftspeople of a multitude of mediums.

Saint John is also home to the New Brunswick Museum where whale sightings are guaranteed in the Hall of Great Whales!

Just minutes from uptown, you’ll find the world-famous Reversing Falls Rapids, where you can watch the Bay of Fundy’s monstrous high tide reverse the flow of the mighty Saint John River, as it pushes through a gorge formed by the collision of continents millions of years ago.

Or, visit Rockwood Park, one of the largest municipal parks in North America.  You’ll find more than 50 kilometres of hiking and biking trails, freshwater lakes for swimming, and you can climb a 554-million-year old lava flow – one of the experiences within the Stonehammer UNESCO Global Geopark.
